Shades of Green

Well, I figure if there is any day to update the blog, it would be today, the day of sr. picnic. Don't really wanna get into the topics of the past or "catch up", just really wanna talk about today, that's all.

Sr. picnic: Overall, it was a really awesome day. No classes, no homework, no teachers. Can it really get any better than that? Well, ok, there were a few teachers, but they were all the cool ones and there was little if any interaction with them, so w00t. At first, it was kind of a drag. I mean, the bus ride was pretty boring, especially cuz everyone was so tired and the bus driver was so damn slow. Heh, but he said boobies, so that was kinda cool. When we finally arrived at the park, the sight was....incredibly underwhelming. Here we got some pretty shitty looking (note: LOOKING) water slides, a lake that doesn't seem that inviting, and a dusty parking lot with dead bushes and dried out trees.

hyeah

we be spedin our sr picnic at a dump like this

Actually, when we ventured further inside, it wasn't such a bad place. The water from the water slides looked pretty nasty, but at least there was more vegetation and didn't look as desolate. Parking down my backpack, I stood around for a bit, then joined some of my friends at the sand volleyball pit. Remembering my volleyball days from sophomore PE, i remember being....how do you say? ah yes.....not very good. Still, it wasn't like I was playing with professionals or anything. We were just some guys lookin to have some fun, so I played along. I could still serve pretty damn well, but my actualy playing skills left a bit to be desired. Still, I tried my best and did my part. Bah, some of my friends left to play at the other court, but I stayed at the sand, cuz sand is cool. Plus, we were havin fun and I didn't want to ruin the game. Later, we kinda broke from the traditional and started playin with our feet and just servin from anywhere or anytime we damn well pleased. Heh, it's funny to think how all "organized games" I play with my friends somehow manage to degenerate into just screwing aroud. Still, screwing around is pretty cool.

Then it started to get a bit hotter. Time to change into those swimming trunks and take a dip in the.....the lake?? Um....ok, not exactly my first idea, but the others seemed to want to, so I decided to join them. I gathered my backpack and headed off towards the bathroom. Entering the bathroom, I quickly realized that I was not in the boy's bathroom. That's right!!!! I freaking went into the girls' bathroom!!!! What the hell was I thinking??? Well, I can actually explain it. Going to the picnic areas/volleyball pits, I only noticed a boys bathroom and figured that the girls bathroom was somewhere else. So I just went into the first bathroom I saw. Heh, it was pretty funny and the girls all made fun of me. Still, the weirdest part was I didn't realize what had happened until a few seconds after I left the bathroom. Going in, I saw people who were obviously not men in bathing suits and said like "Huh? Am I in the wrong place?" After exiting, I kinda stood there for a second, then suddenly realized "WHAT???? WHAT HAPPENED???" Weird....

Anyways, I ended up going to the slides instead with Rodrigo and Patrick, some foreign exchange kid. It was a somewhat steep trek up to the top of the slides and I was eager to get wet so I wouldn't feel so awkward with my shirt off. Rodrigo, who had been here before back when he was a wee kiddie, suggested slide #4 (out of 4) because it was the best. Not really knowing what to expect, since I hadn't really gone to water slides before, I went down feet first.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!

It was really wild and fun! I was gettin sloshed and splashed all over the place. And there was a huge spiral and a tunnel and a really steep dip. It was awesome! Splashing into the pool at the bottom, I got some water up my nose, but I got up laughing and immediately started heading up again. Next time I went head first while Rod went backwards. It was kinda surreal and really cool watching Rod and screaming at each other while going down the slide. I'm glad we were able to maintain our speeds, cuz I'd really hate to have caught up with him and like smashed into his face with my face. I slowly but surely discovered the fine art of going down in different directions and eventually started spinning and rotating myself while going down. Spinning was kinda fun, but it didn't really seem to serve a purpose other than to make you dizzy. Rotaing, however, was awesome cuz it makes you go faster and eventually you lose control and can't stop rotating. Then, you're not even rotating, you're just turning and spinning in all different directions. However, the problem with this is that often times you would lose your mat. Then the burning would begin, and that's really not a place you want to be in :(

About an hour straight of that and I was ready to take a break. Damn, it was tiring going all the way up and then sliding all the way down. It was good timing too, cuz some of the "unlimited food" had just arrived. Just drinks, cookies, fruit, and chips so far, but still, I hadn't eaten anything since the bowl of cereal that morning and I was getting damn hungry. Catching my breath, I ate my share of cookies and grapes, and in true Asian fashion, snuck some bags of chips into my backpack to take home with me later. Somehow, the park didn't seem so bad anymore. I mean, it was still just a park, but since I was having more fun, I was able to appreciate beauty of the nature a lil better. I sat down with some friends and started to talk with them. It sucked cuz some of em were sick while others forgot their bathing suits. Others *cough*Sylvia*cough* were just too afraid to get in. Still, anything was better than school, so they were fairly happy. A tiny bit bored, but happier than they would've been had this been any other day. Later the sandwiches arrived and the real chowing down commenced. Those were some damn good sandwiches. I smuggled one of those into my backpack too.

With the food eaten and my belly full and Taryn and Jessica insisting that Jeff and I go with them (they hadn't gone in yet), it was time to hit the slides again. For a while it was pretty standard procedure, but then I discovered a very beautiful thing: the art of massing/clogging. Some jocks had teh smart of idea of getting everybody to go at once, then clogging up the slides and letting a bunch of people build up, then going all at once. It was genius. It was masterful. It was insane! The first time we tried this, it was freaking awesome! I made the mistake of going down head first, not really understanding the concept too well. I kinda got a slight kick to the head as I rammed into someone's foot, but I think I woulda been just as disoriented had I gone down feet first. But I didn't care! AFter we had enough people, going down the slide was so much fun. Bodies tumbling every which way and not knowing where you were going to end up. Plus, there were some pretty hot girls around me XD

Even touching down at the bottom was awesome, cuz there was a huge drop right before the end and everyone splashed into the bottom pool in a state of disarray. We all knew that we just HAD to do that again. Unfortunately, for a long time, we just couldn't recreate the magic that happened the first time. We tried, and at times we got close, but it just wasn't working. Finally, someone made the wise decision of switching slides. Suddenly, it all came together. I felt myself lose control and just going with the crowd. And this time, it was even bigger than before! Upon touching down at the bottom, we heard that there was only 10 minutes left. And that's when some people decided that this last time was going to involve as many people as we could fit on the slide. Damn the consequences! We were going to have to leave anyways! Cram as many people in as we can!!

Going down the slide, there were 2 major clog points: one near the top (which is good, because it makes the rest of the slide more disorienting and fun) and one at the bottom (right before the big drop). Unfortunately, while we were clogged near the bottom, I noticed that something was wrong. Every time we had tried this, there had always been shouts of "Go! GO! GOOO!", but this time, something was different. It was more alarming, more urgent. I realized something was definitely wrong. Was someone claustrophobic? did someone get hit in the head? I wasn't sure, but I just knew that it was time to get the clog moving. I urged the people in front of me to go ahead. After splashing down, I got out of the pool and heard that it was something minor like someone losing their top. However, that was obviously not the case, as the possible unconscious body of Lindsey O'Brian came down a few seconds later. I'm actually not sure what happened, but obviously something had gone very very wrong.

Speculation included that she had hit her head while coming down on the wall, that someone had kicked her head, that she was trapped underneath some people and couldn't breathe. Maybe some of that happened, maybe none of it happened, but the point was that we needed to get out of the pool to give her some air. Lifeguards, poolguards, chaperones, sports med people, everyone who had qualifications tried to help her out. It was a delicate situation and the mood quickly became somber and serious. To make a long story short, she regained consciousness (if she ever lost it) and was breathing fine and could seem to function well, but was carried off to the hospital anyways. I hope she is okay. I'm sure she is, but ya never know... It kinda put a damper on the whole thing... Talking to Scott Brown, we lamented that while stupid things like that are always fun and hilarious to be a part of, it's only fun until someone gets hurt.

But overall, it was a good day. Injuries outside, it was fun to just spend some time with the people you know, you care about, and love. After all, it's our sr year and we're not going to see most of these people ever again. It was great just hangin with all the people I hang out, the people I kinda hang out with, the people I kinda talk to, people I don't normally talk to, people I don't know, etc. (sigh) We need to do more stuff like this...

Quote of the day: "VAGINAL LASER ROBOTS!!" -various (note: please don't ask about this. I mean, there really is not much more to say than the quote itself.)
