I am in pain
Literally.
Not the emotional crap that I suffer through every minute of my waking life.
This is actual, physical pain.
With some skin irritation added too.
Well, actually I don't go through any real emotional pain. I'm pretty content with things.
But I thought it'd be funny to add taht in.
Wednesday morning, I woke and found to my dismay that I had a mosquito (possibly spider) bite on my hand, as well as 3 more on my right leg. I cursed, because my body does not react well to insect bites. They tend to swell like nobody's business. Hoping that I would get off easy this time, I went on with my normal daily routines.
At DVC, I triumphantly managed to get my program to work perfectly and proceeded to sleep through most of the day's lecture. It was tragic, because for the first time in the class, I am bewildered. I've fallen asleep before in class, but I've understood everything pretty well up to this point. Oh well, I guess I'll figure it out if we ever need it on our programs. I decided to leave early with James and Brice during the computer lab. Brice, desperately seeking Chris Andersen's Martian Succesor Nadesico DVDs, demanded that James take us to his house. Unfortunately, all we had to go on was the fact that he lived on Trafalgar Circle. It sounded familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on where I had heard that street name before. I vaguely offered the suggestion that we "turn right". Needless to say, it didn't help very much.
I then remembered that he once said that he lived near the business district with Brendan and Q-Zar when we were hanging out in that area. I then suggested we head over there. Brice was afraid that we'd get lost again and run into weird people, like the time we got lost and went back in time to the 60s (long story). To make a long story short, we searched high and we searched low, but we did not find any street that even remotely sounded like Trafalgar Circle. We had some good laughs, but didn't find it.
It was then that I made the sensical suggestion that maybe he was at work. Unlike Trafalgar Circle, I knew where Chris worked. Sure enough, upon going near his workplace, we saw his old, brown 91 Previa. He didn't seem too eager to see us, as he was busy. He welcomed us, but it was almost like he was expecting us or something. Didn't seem to surprised, not much of a reaction. HIs boss was a nice guy though and wondered if we were picking him up to see the Powerpuff Girls movie (which wouldn't have been a bad idea). Instead we ransacked his van for the DVDs and headed for lunch. That Zesty Chicken Border Bowl at Taco Bell is actually not that bad. I recommend that everybody try it sometime.
Anyways, with nothing better to do, we went back to Brice's house to play Dynasty Warriors 3, but not before bothering Justin Fung for the rest of the Nadesico DVDs and for Resident Evil for the Gamecube. Dynasty Warriors 3 is a fun, mindless, beat-em-up that is a huge contrast from RE. It was a nice waste of about 2 hours.
Now for the part where I describe how I came across pain. It was Wednesday, so that meant I had Tae Kwon Do that night. Donning my uniform and my brown belt, I went to class and discovered that it would probably be a somewhat easy class since not too many people showed up cuz of July 4th holiday. Actually, it was a pretty good workout. I've sweated harder before, but all in all, it was a pretty good class. About halfway throught the class, we started working on some kicking drills. I was partnered with a rather tall, older green belt and we worked with the large kicking bags. However, during the back kick drills, he unfortunately kicked FAR too low and basically took out my shin. The bag was in the way, but I still felt the impact. It didn't hurt too bad, fortunately, so I was able to continue with the drills. Later that class, after finishing the drills, the instructor told us to puto n our sparring equipment. Already this sounded like a bad idea because of the mosquito bites on my leg, but I bore it and put on my sparring stuff anyway. Lucky me. Because of the shortage of students, I was to spar with the black belt instructor. Actually, I liked sparring him because he actually spars me like a regular opponent, so I get a little more insightful training done. Unfortunately, this time around he had the misfortune of connecting with a very low kick. One to my leg. The same leg that I had been kicked in the shin before. I thought I could be okay, but I took two steps and my right leg gave out. I decided I'd have to sit the last 10 minutes of class out. So now I've got mosquito bites and a stinging shin. Fun stuff all around.
In other yesterday news, I watched Ali. It was okay, but it had a lot more to do about religion and civil rights than I would've cared for in a movie about Muhammad Ali. True, that had a lot to do with his life, but a lot of it didn't make for a very interesting movie. Still, it was pretty good.
Today: I spent July 4th at my uncle's house in Pleasant Hill. Good food, and I got to watch some extended basic cable too. It was nice watching stuff I hadn't seen in a long time, like Toonami stuff and Nickelodeon and Comedy Central. Good stuff all around. Of course, my insect bites are swollen like crazy, but it's all gravy I guess. Tomorrow's another day.
Approximate Quote of the day: (After accidentally calling his aunt old) "Aw, no Aunt Viv, you know, that was just kid's talk. Y-you know, uh...bad...means good, stupid...means great, and old means...beautiful. (pause) You are so old. You are the oldest person I have ever seen." -Will Smith, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
