Yep, it's official. Summer has started. I don't have anything to talk about really, so that's why I haven't been updating this silly old thing as much. I expected DVC to be a little more eventful, but it's pretty much been like school, except not in such a closed environment and with fewer people who piss me off. Pretty standard stuff if you ask me. I imagine that university life will be like this, except with more interaction, what with dorms and such. Should be good stuff. I wish I was one of the people who had thought ahead an planned to spend summer at a real university getting to know the ins and outs of college life. Still, I should be going down to visit SoCal colleges sometime this summer, so that'll still be a pretty good start.
Thursday: I really shoulda written this yesterday, but I got home too late. Yesterday was an absolutely great day. It contained the absolute essence of summer: some education, some mindless fun, some organized project planning, some volunteering, and hangin with your best friends.
DVC was pretty standard fare. Franklin and I met Brice and ate at the cafeteria. Franklin wasn't hungry since he'd already eaten, but unfortunately for Brice and I, the cafeteria wasn't serving breakfast yet. However, they did have those packaged, processed, Mexican food products that are found in large numbers at Northgate. Brice got a bean burrito while I chose a monterey-jack chicken chimichanga. Afterwards, we compared nutritional facts. I got more iron and vitamin c, but I also consumed more saturated fat. Brice got more Vitamin A and calcium, but he also got tons more sodium. Yes kids, this is how we make breakfast exciting...
After class, I didn't really feel like hanging around til 12:40 for Franklin's mom to pick us up (no offense Franklin, your mom is a great and generous lady, and I truly appreciate every ride I've ever mooched off of you :-P), so I went with James and Brice. We picked up Alex Bain (who I never really knew before, but is a truly funny person) and we went out to lunch. Alex and I remembered that it was Free Popcorn Chicken day at KFC, so we decided to go there. However, James seemed somewhat unfamilliar with the term "Free" because he proceeded to order a family size Popcorn Chicken and Potato Wedges for the four of us. I realize that the "Free" also iimplies that its just sample size, but we coulda ordered 4 of them and then went off somewhere cheaper, like McDonald's and gotten something small. And considering my strange hunger/eating behavior lately, that sample size probably woulda filled us up. HOwever, we were in no position to argue with the Drive-thru speakerbox, so we all chipped in, James found a parking space, and we all passed around the Popcorn Chicken box. For all the shitty food that KFC serves, the Popcorn Chicken was pretty good. It just goes to show that KFC's specialty crap sucks, but they can do normal chicken pretty well.
Well, we were planning on going back to James' house and figuring out what to do with the rest of the day, when Alex suddenly recognized one John Skiba biking down Oak Grove near the library. He immediately poked his head out the window and yelled "SKIBA SUCKS!!!!" and "SKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!". I didn't know who the guy was, but I joined in anyways. It seems that he and Alex were friends and did this kinda stuff whenever they passed each other on the street. However, Alex wasn't ready to stop. He ordered James to pull over and wait for Skiba so we could yell at him some more. Brice got the idea of using his Aikido towel as a cape and standing up through the sunroof. Suddenly, we noticed something wrong... Skiba and his little brother(?) were turning.... Crap!!!!! U-turn, quick!!!!!
And so, we pursued Skiba through most of the Arbolado area. I'm not sure if he knew we were chasing him, but he made an awful lot of turns, and we'd be going to fast to actually follow him properly. We'd have to look down a road and if we saw him, U-turn at the next street and continue giving chase. Eventually we lost him, and we were forced to retire, dissapointed. But not before futily looking around for about 10 minutes and backtracking all of our steps. (sigh) We thought about finding someone else to pursue (I had seen Dave Wickman earlier), but instead just went back to James' and tested out his killer new speakers.
We chilled and messed around and Brice and I demonstrated our martial art skills for about an hour until I realized I needed to go home to get ready for Kaiser. For once in a long while, I was actually looking forward to Kaiser because we were finally getting new people! Finally, I wouldn't have to spend 3 hours at the MOB desk alone!! I arrived with Franklin at Kaiser and found 2 girls and 2 guys waiting for instruction. Boss lady Michelle told me to take the 2 girls and the Asian guy down to MOB. Since they knew most of the ropes, I wouldn't have to teach them much new. I have to say, I now remember why Kaiser used to be fun. It's all about the people. The people you volunteer with can be some of the coolest and most fun people you'll ever know. The Asian guy didn't talk much, but he seemed like a nice guy. Laughed when it was necessary. The two girls were apparently best friends and were really easy to get along with. I'm really looking forward to working with them. They seem really fun, especially because they think and react a lot like I do (which is a very scary thought). Having people to talk to reminded me of the days when the MOB desk used to be packed, and I started to miss some of the old people. However, the newbies are great to work with. Apparently next week our shift is going out for dinner as a kind of bonding experience. Sounds like fun.
After putting in my 3 hours worth, I went over to Dan's house for a traditional sleepover, except this one wasn't really a sleepover. Still, we engaged in all the traditional sleepover activites, such as eating pizza, raiding fridge for drinks, lots and lots and lots of videogames, and messing around with Dan's tech stuff. I wasn't looking TOO forward to it since the main venue for the night was probably going to be Super Smash Bros Melee, and I'd kinda gotten bored of it, since it was almost exactly like the original Smash Bros. However, I have to say that that night was the most fun I've ever had with that game. It felt like I was playing it for the first time again. I guess some games are really more about the people you're with. That's not to say that I don't enjoy the people I played the game with before, but this was my traditional gaming group. I've probably logged more multiplayer hours with these people than with anyone else. Later we popped in Bomberman Generations and had ourselves a side-splitting, hilariously fun good time. Eric is crazy!! At some point, he simply started going kamikaze on whoever won last time. I laughed harder than I have in a long time. (sigh) I miss hanging out with these people. It seems like ages since we all did something together, and half of them are going away for a good chunk of the summer. Oh well, we'll have to really make it count next year, when we'll be seniors baby!!
Well, eventually we turned to look at the clock and noticed that it was almost midnight. About 2 hours later, we decided we should probably be getting home. I thought to myself that it was just like a sleepover, cept without the sleep. I was a little concerned with Jeff's state of conciousness, but I made it home safely. Watched some morning TV (which absolutely sucks) and fell asleep. One of the best days I've had this year. i need to do more stuff like that this summer.
I hear my parents screaming in the other room at the Korea vs. Spain game. Heh, maybe it's time I check up on them, see who's winning. I'm outie.
