Shades of Green

(sigh) I can tell I'm getting into this whole blog thing now. Even with a real journal, I'm usually only compelled to write in it about once ever five or six days at the most, unless something's really troubling me. Usually it's like the first entry is 5-23, and then the next one will be 7-2. Yet, here I am, writing for the second time in one day. I know that's really nothing, since some people write as much as 5 or more entries in one day, but this is still a lot for pitiful old me.

After my parents left to go take care of my dad's business deal or something, I found myself alone in the house (not unusual), with a car and a perfectly valid license (quite unusual). So of course, the eternal question came up: Should I, Jason Lee, newly licensed driver, without insurance, go gallavanting around town? I mean, I didn't really have any place to go, and there isn't really anything terribly exciting to do in Walnut Creek (at least nothing that screams out to me that I should be doing it RIGHT NOW), but should I take it for a spin? Get some practice? Maybe some ice cream? I was considering calling up a friend and asking if he wanted to hang out, just at his house or something. But I figured everyone would be busy or just tired from SATs. In the end, I opted to watch my recording of Digimon from this morning and just play some videogames.

Digimon.... If there has been a better dubbed for broadcast anime show, I want you to show me it, cuz it's going to be DAMN good. Digimon Tamers is quite frankly the best anime series designed for public TV that I have ever seen. The dialogue, the voice acting, the story and plot, the character develoment...I can find nothing wrong with this series of Digimon! Much better than that stale season 2, which had some of the worst dialogue I've ever seen in my life. This year, the story got a hell of a lot better and took a very, very dark turn. I mean, we've got someone who almost gets killed, a girl who tries to strangle herself to death, a gigantic creature who only gets stronger when feeding off said girl's despair, an ex-villain's desperate need to save someone, parents who can only stand by and watch their children and their children's Digimon go out and fight a futile battle, and two entire worlds under complete siege. That was just this week, too! And they call this a kid's show? Bah, this show just goes to show you that even "kid's shows" can be intelligent and enjoyed by all. Everyone, watch next week's one-hour season finale of Digimon Tamers. I know you're not going to know what the hell is going on, but watch it! Damn, the preview looked pretty chilling. It looked like normal fare for what's been going on lately at first: explosions, large-scale battles, creepy creatures, girl about to have emotional breakdown (again!) from her depression, and of course, tears coming from our valiant heros' faces. However, at the end, someone said three words that sent chills down my spine: "You're under arrest..." What could that possibly mean? It's hard to believe that after all the trials these poor kids have been through, I'm more afraid of a simple policeman's speech. What the hell is going on? Looks like I'll just have to wait...

Which brings me to my next point: Mega Man 3. Just as you have to watch Digimon, you need to play this game. I don't care that it's well over 10 years old, this game has definitely withstood the test of time. I was able to spend an hour and a half playing this game all the way through and still love every minute of it. Considering I played this game practically to death when I was younger, that's really something to say! The gameplay and control are absolutely perfect. If games today could play as well this game does, I'd be in heaven. It's just a simple run and shoot game, but it sucks you in and it becomes a part of you. Graphics and music are of course archaic, but in its simpleness lies it complexity and its beauty. Some of those 1 minute loops of beeps and boops are better than today's fully orchestrated and vocalized songs (like FF8's "Eyes on Me"). Whether you're a newbie to games, a graphics freak, a PC junkie, or an old-skool gamer, you owe it to yourself to go back and play this masterpiece. I would be crazy enough to call this the NES's crowning achievement.

Anyways, later that night my parents' friends came over, so I went with them for Korean food. After I was done, I didn't really want to hang around the table and listen to them chatter in Korean for 20 minutes until the check came, so I went out to McDonald's to get some Dippin Dots.... Talk about shitty service. It took those buffoons 10 minutes to even notice that I was standing at the counter! They were just mulling about in the back preparing food (for apparently no one, because it was only me and some other guy who was also waiting for them to notice him). And of course, the other guy has to have a credit card, and the losers of course have to be unable to operate the credit card thingamajig. And to top it all off, they completely forget about me until about 5 minutes later, when one of the buffoons finally remembered me and got my ice cream in about 6 seconds. Oh yeah, and as I was leaving, the other guy said something (see below).

Well, that's it really. Not really looking forward to much more this weekend. Tomorrow I have a pretty full schedule with project groups of various kinds. Should be fun, I guess.

Second quote of the day: "Uh...could I get my money back? I just noticed that that woman just coughed into her hands while making my burger and didn't even wash her hands afterwards..." - the other guy at McDonalds (Kids, don't eat at McDonalds!)
